Year of the Horse
In 2014, St Clair Superior Development Corporation (SCSDC) in Cleveland OH will unleash the eighth in its series of annual public art campaigns celebrating the Lunar Chinese Year. This year’s project commemorates the Chinese Year of the Horse, which begins with the new moon January 31, 2014. To kick off the celebration, SCSDC will install several fiberglass horse sculptures featuring unique designs created and applied by Northeast Ohio artists/organizations. The sculptures are sponsored by local businesses and installed throughout Cleveland’s St. Clair Superior neighborhood.
The June 2014 installation will showcase Cleveland’s AsiaTown community as well as St. Clair Superior’s blossoming arts district and thriving business community. Through a variety of education programs and other events throughout the year, the Year of the Horse Project promotes investment in the St. Clair Superior neighborhood, celebrates city-wide cultural awareness and supports arts education and the local artist community.
Local artists will apply their talent & creativity to the fiberglass Horse sculptures to create an assortment of unique pieces of public art. The Horse will be placed outside local business establishments in Cleveland in early June, and will be auctioned in Fall 2014 to help fund next year’s project. Check out the guide & map to find out where each sculpture is located around the city!
