VOCA: Help for Victims of Crime
Becoming a victim of crime is a tremendously stressful time. Too often, victims can feel isolated and victimized both by the criminal defendant and the legal system.
But there is help. Thanks to the Federal Victims of Crime Act, or VOCA, numerous statewide organizations and local agencies exist to assist you in dealing with the emotional, financial, and legal consequences of victimization.
These assistance programs include rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters, guardian ad litem programs, victim advocates in prosecutors¹ offices, and other providers of direct services to victims.
If you have been a victim of a crime, we encourage you to reach out. Plenty of people are ready and waiting to help you through this terrible time.
