Celebrate the Year of the Dog

dog-symbolSt. Clair Superior Development Corporation (SCSDC) welcomes the 2006 Year of the Dog celebration to the St. Clair Superior neighborhood! Ocurring in February each year, the Chinese New Year became the Year of the Dog for 2006. In May, we turned our streets into a forum for public art, creativity and innovation to celebrate the Year of the Dog. The Year of the Dog project is a public art exhibition that places life-size fiberglass dogs (similar to the guitars in downtown Cleveland), designed and created by local artists, that are located throughout the St. Clair Superior landscape for the public to view and interact with. The importance of this project to the St. Clair Superior neighborhood is threefold:

  • To raise awareness of the Asian cultures present in this community through the Chinese New Year;
  • To support local artists and display their work for all to see; and
  • To encourage economic development by drawing people into the neighborhood to shop in our retail establishments, eat in our restaurants, and generally demonstrate that this is a great place to live!lucky

A blank dog sculpture "Lucky" is pictured at the right. The dogs are on display through September 18. On October 21, the dogs will go up for auction at Josaphat Arts Hall (1433 East 33rd Street) where a Community Open House will be held on October 22.
