"Making a difference for people and place."
St. Clair Superior Development Corporation was formed in May 1999 through the merger of the St. Clair Superior Coalition (SCSC) and the St. Clair Business Association (SCBA). The St. Clair Superior Coalition was an issued-oriented, grass-roots citizen advocacy organization begun in 1976. During its time, the organization formed a housing committee to address blighted and vacant properties; lobbied local and state government to establish a housing court in the city of Cleveland; mobilized hundreds of residents to act on issues of concern; and brought in over $5.5 million for neighborhood development projects.

The St. Clair Business Association was founded in November 1970. It served as a forum for local business to exchange ideas and to address issues that affected them. The organization helped to facilitate improvements to the local commercial district through its paint program; furthered revitalization through a district clean up program; and worked on commercial code enforcement and safety issues through its lock program. Additionally the St. Clair Business Association provided business assistance and community outreach and marketing through a merchantıs association.

Coming Together To Build A Future
Over time it became apparent that a merger of the St. Clair Superior Coalition and the St. Clair Business Association afforded an opportunity to service the same constituents with more coordination, united resources and for greater community impact.

SCSDC is officially the result of a merger of two community organizations and is a community-based development organization seeking to improve the quality of life for residents, businesses and stakeholders in the St. Clair Superior neighborhood. Our fundamental mission is to build community leadership and empower stakeholders to take charge of their neighborhoods and their future.
