SCSDC Community Action Groups

The community action groups in the neighborhood vary in size, focus and level of activity, so there is likely one that fits your interests perfectly. If not, the SCSDC community involvement staff is here to help you put your vision for the community into action steps. Take a look at just a few of the initiatives being sponsored by the various action groups.

St. Clair Superior Ward 8 Club

  • Neighborhood Watch Training -- St. Clair Superior Ward 8 Club is an active participant in a neighborhood watch training program facilitated by the City of Cleveland Community Policing Department.
  • Community Organizing Block Group (COBG)
    • Safety Lighting and Beautification Project -- To increase safety throughout the neighborhood, COBG is implementing a Security Lighting and Beautification project. The project was awarded by Neighborhood Connections to install lamp posts in the front yards of ten senior citizens on their blocks. As a condition of the grant 5 residents are volunteering to canvass their streets for malfunctioning street lights to be repaired, along with fundraising to assist with purchasing the lamp posts.praise
    • Praise the Children Day -- COBG holds an annual Praise the Children Day in June. This is a celebration of the children in the community. The day of activities includes basketball, an art workshop, guest NFL and NBA speakers and plenty of free food and prizes. This event facilitates bonding between children and adults.
  • Partners for Progress (PFP)
PFP is a group of community leaders that evolved out of St. Clair Superior's Community Involvement Planning Meetings. The planning meetings were designed to get feedback from community members on the effectiveness of community organizing. After the fourth meeting, the group decided that they wanted to become an "action group" and decided on the name Partners for Progress. The group is a community involvement steering committee and is responsible for increasing involvement throughout the entire neighborhood. The group is currently working on a "Friendly Connections" welcoming project. Each participant will "welcome" community members by providing information on the various community groups that are meeting; along with safety information, city information, and a coupon book of neighborhood businesses. The purpose of the project is to introduce the community to people who may not know about the services that are provided by St. Clair Superior Development Corp. and other organizations within the neighborhood.
  • East 40s Action Group

    • The East 40s Action Group holds an annual talent show and festival at the SE corner of East 45th Street and Superior Avenue in July. The event is made possible with the support of local business and resident contributions, a Neighborhood Connection grant (a small grants program of the Cleveland Foundation) and a lot of energy from the organizing committee! It is a huge success!festival
    • An annual Youth Forum is hosted by the East 40s Action Group. They began talking about why youth are leaving the neighborhood and wanted to make sure that these youth had a forum to talk to decision makers in the community. Arts, Amenities, Education, Recreation, and Safety are the five topics chosen for discussion.
