As a child, Laurie would sit in front of the chalkboard her mother gave her and draw for hours until there were mounds of chalk dust on the floor, paper was hard to come by. "Art was just something to do, it made people smile. Who knew you could make a career out of it?!"
Following graduation from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh, PA she moved from her home town in Butler, PA to the Cleveland suburb of Strongsville, Ohio. Her twenty year career as an illustrator on staff at American Greetings provided her with the knowledge and experience she now relies on to run her own studio. The title of ILLUSTRATOR and DESIGNER encompasses quite an array of meanings for Laurie. Character design, product display, imaginative portraiture, wallpaper, gift wrap and textile design, logo and corporate identity, graphic design, imagery collage, product themes, stained glass design and ornamental sculpture.
The types of media she employs includes watercolor, pencil, acrylic, oils to name a few. In addition to the many traditional tools, the age of technology adds an endless variety to Laurie's imagination. PhotoShop, Freehand and Corel Painter programs provides new opportunities for her images. Her styles are as varied as her interests, from cute childrens' books to masculine textile design, from decorative floral motifs to contemporary moving graphics. The industry tends to put artists in a box. Resisting this, Laurie continues to explore new territories with her work. Enjoy as you explore her fine art on line gallery at www.fineartamerica.com.
