We’re Hiring! SCSDC Seeks AmeriCorps VISTA Member

Interested in working in a vibrant urban neighborhood to improve access to healthy food? St. Clair Superior Development Corporation is hiring one full-time, year-long AmeriCorps VISTA member (July 3, 2017 – July 2, 2018) to strengthen partnerships among food producers, community partners, and entrepreneurs and improve options for healthy, affordable foods in Cleveland’s St. Clair Superior neighborhood. The VISTA member will be working to expand the use of benefits and incentive programs at the St. Clair Farm Market, design innovative marketing strategies to promote the market in the neighborhood, develop a market ambassador program, and create a neighborhood food guide to connect community members to healthy, affordable foods and improve food security. VISTA Member will be responsible for the following duties:

*Convene market advisory committee and develop partnerships with community organizations and stakeholders to support and expand benefit and incentive programs at the St. Clair Farm Market (SNAP, WIC, Produce Perks, and Produce Prescription)

*Design and implement innovative marketing strategies and programming that promote the use of benefit and incentive programs at the St. Clair Farm Market and improve food security

*Develop a neighborhood ambassador program for the St Clair Farm Market and hands-on community teaching kitchen that improves food security by teaching new skills, sharing recipe ideas, and reducing barriers and addressing misperceptions about healthy eating, and creates more social connections

*Create and distribute a neighborhood good food guide that identifies places throughout the neighborhood for residents to buy or receive healthy food and educational opportunities to learn about eating healthy

*Identify opportunities for collaborative partnership among organizations that improve food security by building capacity, leveraging community assets and adding value to organizations’ mission and work

Skills and Qualifications

*Strong verbal and written communication skills

*Ability to communicate and work with a variety of stakeholders from low-income residents to elected officials to practitioners and leaders of local organizations.

*Ability to work collaboratively with and lead teams comprised of diverse partners

*Well-organized and demonstrated ability to follow timelines

*Self-directed and independent

*Interest in developing creative and innovative solutions for challenging community problems

*Sensitivity to racial, ethnic and socio-economic differences as well as other differences among people with whom she or he will work

*Enjoys working outside and in the community

*Passion and interest in community development, community health, healthy food access, local food and food justice and/or microenterprise development

*Basic computer skills e. Microsoft Office Suite
